Scheduled to open in November 2022, the project for this new building is signed by Arquitetos Associados - a studio based in Belo Horizonte with extensive experience in gallery design, having signed several pavilions at Inhotim, and also responsible for curating the Brazilian Pavilion in the last Venice Architecture Biennale. Estimated at approximately R$85 million, the construction of Pina Contemporânea will be funded by the private sector and the Government of São Paulo, which will cover R$55 million. The site will have the potential to serve up to 1 million visitors per year .

The project maintains the architectural volumes of the two blocks of buildings already existing on the site. Connecting these two blocks will be a large covered public square , measuring 1,339.2 m2 . The old pavilions will be restored and their internal spaces reorganized to adapt them to their new use. A basement and a mezzanine complement the proposal.

The intention was to create an environment with all the fundamental requirements for a 21st century museum , but which was also friendly, inclusive, accessible and integrated with Parque da Luz and the Pinacoteca Luz building.
