Have you ever heard of
green buildings ? These "green curtains" are appearing more and more frequently in large cities and indicate a concern for
sustainability in the construction industry. Find out more about them!
What is green building?
A trend in civil construction, green building is a type of building designed to have
little impact on the environment . This planning takes place at
all stages of its life cycle , from the design of the project to its completion. To ensure an environmentally friendly and responsible project, different resources are applied to its structure, such as green materials,
solar energy panels and rainwater collection.
How does it work?
Designed to operate with maximum efficiency,
green buildings take into account the environment in which they are located, taking care to preserve the
quality of life of the residents of that region. The well-being of people, in fact, is one of the main motivations for
green buildings , which direct their ecological actions — such as the use of renewable energy sources, low greenhouse gas emissions and the reuse of materials — to cause a direct benefit to human health.
Brazil in the sustainable race
A 2019 survey by the
US Green Building Council (USGBC) states that Brazil ranks fourth among ten countries and regions outside the United States with the largest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified area — a seal that evaluates which buildings meet the environmental and energy requirements set by the agency.
The country has more than 1,450 LEED-certified projects . Below, we have selected some green buildings around the world that stand out for their varied sustainable solutions. Check them out!
One Central Park, Australia
Launched in Australia in 2013,
One Central Park aimed to be
the tallest living wall ever built . The dense vegetation, which spreads along the
166-meter-high residential buildings, was divided between native and exotic species. A heliostat was positioned between the two towers, which, through its movement, reflects sunlight onto the
garden throughout the day. The project was designed by vertical garden specialist Patrick Blanc and renowned architect
Jean Nouvel .
Parkroyal on Pickering, Singapore
The project has received several international awards , including recognition as the
most sustainable hotel in the world and Singapore's Green Mark Platinum environmental certification. The project was designed by studio
WOHA .
Bosco Centrale, in Brazil
In Curitiba, the
Bosco Centrale development included a large
vertical garden in its design, which can be enjoyed from all floors of the building. Designed by landscaper
Benedito Abbud , the building is marked by the presence of nature. "In addition to visual and physical concerns, we pay attention to
biophilia , which is nothing more than a strategy to reconnect people with nature and the ecosystem. The term is a complement to
green architecture , which
reduces the environmental impact of the built world .
and uses intelligent design to create more natural and preserved spaces in cities,” says Abbud.
Bosco Verticale, in Italy
The two towers of
Bosco Verticale stand out on the Milan skyline like large
green walls . Designed by the architects of
Studio Boeri , the complex houses 480 medium and large trees, as well as another 300 small ones. There are also 11,000 perennial and creeping plants. 5,000 shrubs make up the vertical forest. The layer of vegetation, which replaces traditional materials with a polychrome of leaves on the walls,
adjusts the microclimate, filters sunlight and contributes to the increase in the populations of fauna and flora .[newsletter]
