Milan Design Week 2023: in a monumental building, the Alcova moves
For those who enjoy the decaying beauty of abandoned buildings , there is no way to resist the appeal of Alcova – a traveling platform for the exhibition of the work of independent designers created by Joseph Grima (Space Caviar) and Valentina Ciuffi (Studio Vedèt). This year, in its 5th edition, the duo chose to host the exhibition in the monumental spaces of the former slaughterhouse of Porta Vittoria , in Milan. There are more than 70 projects in a program that involves already established design institutions and brands, as well as emerging designers and students.

In its fifth edition, Alcova celebrates the new generation of creatives who research new technologies , materials and sustainability . The common thread of this edition is materials. And one of the discoveries of the report was the work of the research platform of Atelier Luma , coordinated by the French Jan Boelen , and the installation of the Finnish platform Habitarematerials , curated by Nemo Architects .
And for the first time, visitors will be able to purchase a souvenir from the exhibition , as Alcova launches its first concept store, in collaboration with Danish/Italian duo Older .
