An
interior project is not just about beauty. When thinking about home decor, it is important to combine
decorative and functional elements with items that add to the beauty of the project, while at the same time playing an essential role in well-being within the home, such as
curtains . Responsible for ensuring privacy in environments, curtains are also essential for
controlling lighting and even making the environment cooler on
hot days .

In interior projects, curtains are more than accessories: they are capable of protecting and decorating
furniture , which when in constant contact with the sun can deteriorate more quickly.

There are several models of curtains and blinds today, and choosing the best one becomes a challenge amidst so much diversity. To help resolve any doubts, architects
Monike Lafuente and Claudia Yamada , responsible for Studio Tan-gram, give accurate tips on how to choose (and make the most of) curtains at home.
Curtain x Blinds
Generally speaking, the
differences between curtains and blinds are very clear to anyone who already has a little knowledge on the subject. “In general terms, we explain that the curtain slides to the sides, while the blind is applied as a thicker material, in addition to rolling upwards, as in the roller version. The sense of opening is the point that most differentiates them”, explains Monike.
The
choice of model will depend on some aspects: the resident's taste, decoration style and the size of the space. Blinds, for example, are well known for being able to fully control lighting, but nowadays there are several curtains capable of doing the same.

In
projects that value sophistication and have a more minimalist, classic or romantic style, the use of curtains tends to have a better fit, especially when light fabrics are chosen.

In a more industrial and contemporary atmosphere, blinds may be welcome. In
small room designs , they are also usually preferred because they present a better proportion in the room.

On terraces and balconies, architects suggest looking for
pieces with a standard weave that does not seal 100% , thus allowing protection, but not completely isolating the environment to the point of impairing natural lighting.
For bedrooms, both
blinds and curtains can be great solutions to ensure comfort. For those who like it to be completely pitch black, even at dawn, the best option is to opt for blackout curtains, which almost completely block the sun from entering. For those who enjoy the dawn and prefer to wake up with indirect lighting, more translucent models are the best bet.
