The intensity of her poetic language and the enigmatic personality of Clarice Lispector inspired the
Nejaim Azevedo office, led by the duo Márcia Nejaim and Suzana Azevedo, in the design of the welcoming and elegant
Casa Coral - Afeto at
CASACOR Pernambuco 2024 , which occupies, until November 3, the historic Palazzo Itália Building in Recife.
Designed to thrill the people of Pernambuco, the space pays homage to one of the most important writers in Brazilian literature, who spent part of her youth in the capital of Pernambuco. “Our
Casa Coral – Afeto is a colorful and intense space, like Clarice Lispector, like the people of Pernambuco. We have a very close relationship with Pernambuco because of the
Coral factory in Recife. In addition, we support and bring color to Galo da Madrugada, the largest street carnival block in the world. Being at CASACOR is another way for us to interact with our consumers and get closer to architects and decoration professionals,” says Priscila Perez, Color Activation Manager for Decorative Paints in Brazil at AkzoNobel. Guided by this scenario full of artistic and visual references, the architects began their project by creating a living room, integrated kitchen and suite using a color palette with shades of red from the
Coral Decora Premium line – made with water and a distinctive 3D finish. “When you think of Clarice, you really think of red, passion, drama. A profusion of emotions. That’s why we used two tones in the project. A denser one, called Vermelho Tapeçaria, which is a wine tone, and Cereja Intensa, which is used in the bedroom,” explains Márcia.
With this idea of filling the interiors with strong hues, the two opted for a curation of more neutral furniture and accessories. Thus, the space gained contemporary design furniture with delicate lines and sinuous shapes. In the living room, there are even pieces that rescue an art deco aesthetic, reinforcing the timeless charm of the composition.
To contrast, in the open and integrated kitchen, a deep green tone, Noite Fria, takes over the walls and the custom-made woodwork. According to Márcia, the hue is reminiscent of the forests of Brazil and proposes an atmosphere of tranquility. “The green balanced the intensity of the red. And, since we managed to have the kitchen cabinets also have the same tone as the wall, we have a more restrained palette on that side [of the rooms]. Meanwhile, the white of the dining table, or even the sofa and rugs, came to brighten up”, she explains.
The energy of red resurfaces in the bedroom, this time with the color Intense Cherry accompanied by Coastal Beige. “The neutral color in the bedroom calms, welcomes and creates a place where affective memories and identity are present with charm and enchantment. The parquet floor and the furniture with marquetry give a retro touch and reinforce the sophistication”, says the architect. It is also there that Clarice’s phrase (“By the way, really, isn’t writing almost like painting with words? I wanted to write like a painter”) appears printed on the wall of the desk, alluding to her foray into the world of visual arts (she even painted a few canvases, although she never considered herself a painter) and also to her synesthetic and holistic vision of the craft of writing.
For Coral, presenting a project that brings together art, history and color combinations is a way of communicating with the Brazilian identity itself. “We always encourage the use of colors, something that is in the brand’s DNA, but above all, we value environments that bring personality, without leaving aside the coziness, that atmosphere that makes us feel welcome and want to enjoy that space. This is our invitation for people to give colors a chance in decoration and be surprised by unique projects that reflect their personality”, concludes Priscila. In addition to Casa Coral - Afeto, Coral paints are also present in the other 33 environments of CASACOR PE. The brand has been a strategic participant in CASACOR since 2016 and is now the official paint of the show in all squares in Brazil and Bolivia.
