Flos and Patricia Urquiola combine nature and mechanics in the Almendra lamp

Delicate as a tree branch, Patricia Urquiola 's Almendra lamp – which means "almond" in Spanish – blossoms for Flos . In the designer's view, its lighting system is like a module that embodies the union between nature and technology .

As a metaphor for the fruit from which its name derives, the suspended product is characterized by its two shells that act as diffusers, attached directly to its branched structure. The light’s organic and functional composition evokes an atmosphere of domestic warmth as it floats over the room.

The design is modular, customizable and extensible, tailored to environments that capture the contemporary needs of living and hospitality.

The idea was to create a lighting system that provides functional, efficient and at the same time soft light. Flos design curators Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla asked Urquiola to choose a color palette based on his personality – a approach that the brand has been planning since 2019.

The end result is a selection of tones derived directly from what inspired the lamp: the almond . Metallic green mixed with blue for the tree, off-white for the flowers and ochre for the branches and shells. The module was created to minimize environmental impact, reinforcing Flos' sustainable production through the choice of materials that make up the design. Source: Designboom
