Thélvyo Veiga , partners at the helm of
Jabuticasa , in addition to being close to opening the brand's new studio in Barra da Tijuca, designed by
Bel Lobo , an architect from the CASACOR cast, also have another reason to celebrate: the duo was recognized at the end of March with the prize won at the IF Design Award with the AL 13 chair.
The international award, created in 1954, provides
one of the main seals of quality in design and grants recognition of excellence in the areas of product; packaging; communication and product design; and architecture and interiors, among others. The 2022 edition had
10,700 projects submitted from 57 countries – a record number of entries – with 34 Brazilian projects chosen in the pre-selection by 130 jurors and in the final, by 85. In total, works from 28 Brazilians were selected and chair AL 13 won in the Product category - 1.13 Furniture/Decoration.
"It was the first time we competed and we are happy to be recognized," says Thiago, a Rio native with a degree in industrial design from PUC. The chair, made of curved plywood and aluminum, was built using traditional carpentry techniques and mass production. The feet are made of
solid wood , with the seat and backrest made of veneered plywood and natural wood veneer. "It is part of a collection that has the same name and is a reference to the symbol for aluminum (AL) in the periodic table and its atomic weight (13). It follows
Jabuticasa's clean aesthetic language, with no visible screws or fittings ."
Jabuticasa was created in 2013 with the intention of showing the market the duo's personal vision of industrial design in Rio. Between the sea and the mountains, Thiago creates the models that are manufactured in his own factory in Miracema, where Thélvyo, an industrial designer and An excellent model maker and carpenter, he oversees the duo's production processes. "The name of our brand was inspired by the jabuticaba, a very Brazilian fruit," says Thiago. The award ceremony will take place on
May 16 at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin, Germany.
