Located in Belo Horizonte, the Ceramics Studio – run by Flavia Soares, Luiza Soares and Daniel Romeiro – gained national fame with works that move between art and design , intentionally blurring the line between the two. "Before being a brand of artisanal ceramics, we are a design studio ," explains Flávia Soares. "We are a creative collective that uses ceramics as its essential language . We found in this material – and in the processes involved in its manufacture – a fertile field to explore individual talents that complement each other in a shared project," she adds. Until the beginning of the year, all activities – from the creative process to the burning, including the store and various events – took place in a charming house in
Contagem, MG . Starting in June, all development open to the public will be concentrated in the
new modernist address in the capital of Minas Gerais.
The new house is a listed cultural asset that is part of the Protected Urban Complex of Praça da Liberdade
. It was built in 1952 as the residence of the doctor Milton Machado Mourão and the artist Gilda Antonina Maria Falci Mourão. The architectural restoration and ambiance project, which studied
the opening of the house to the city , is the work of renowned architect
Gabriel Castro and his office
Mobio Arquitetura , which from now on is also located in the property with its new headquarters.
There, individual and
collective projects are presented in a gallery format. "We also remodeled the presentation of utilitarian ceramics to communicate more directly the level of
sophistication and
complexity that meticulous craftsmanship can achieve," explains
Luiza Soares , who runs the new house. In this context, a
wider range of products will be available with the aim of offering exceptional alternatives for a wide variety of demands ranging from a complete
dinner set to an
important gift. "We found the synthesis of many of our designs in a historic house listed as part of the cultural heritage of Belo Horizonte, located on the outskirts of
Praça da Liberdade and hidden by a wall. The striking features of
modern architecture no longer go unnoticed by people since we removed the wall, in a
symbolic gesture of the invitation to look that characterizes the Studio", says
Daniel Romeiro. Service - Ceramics Studio
