The São Paulo artist
Alê Jordão is synonymous with eclecticism. Whether using neon, bulletproof glass, or even
guard rails, everything transforms in his hands. "The pandemic made me revisit many of my works," he says, having held a prominent place in Brazilian contemporary art for over 20 years. This year, Alê Jordão presents his newest collection in the
5Vie circuit, at Via Cesare Correnti 14, in the historic center of Milan, during the
FuoriSalone 2025, from April 7 to 13. "This time, I embraced my passion for the universe of
streetwear," the artist jokes, launching eight rugs from the collection
Artistic Tapestry of Sneakers, where the
sneakers – his great obsession – take center stage.
His inspiration comes from a deep understanding of
urban culture and the impact that movements such as hip-hop, skateboarding, and basketball have on
fashion and
consumption. To create the pieces, Jordão photographed some of his favorite sneakers and transformed the images into tapestries. “
The rugs feature the photographic silhouette of the sneakers, and the digital printing process is among the most modern, using tufted nylon with a Persian finish. They are available in two sizes: 60 x 120 cm and 200 x 180 cm,” the artist explains.
Internationally recognized as the "light man," Alê Jordão returns to illuminate Milan with his emblematic neon creations. Still within the 5Vie circuit, at the Piloto Milano exhibition (Via Olona 6), he presents a new and irreverent series titled Neon Puzzle. "You can't come to Milan Design Week without a neon installation, one of my most recognized works in the world," jokes Jordão. The series, made of acrylic with internal neon lighting, resembles pieces of a puzzle, ready to be assembled or hung.
