In Lisbon, the apartment impresses with the strong shade of blue that fills the living room
In Lisbon’s charming historic Chiado neighborhood, it’s not uncommon to see old buildings undergoing a complete retrofit. Usually, only the facades are kept while the interior is completely remodeled , making way for apartments with all the latest in modern amenities – a rarity in the Portuguese capital. Architect Andrea Chicharo , who has already been present at CASACOR and has worked for years between Rio, São Paulo and Lisbon, knows this well. But in this project, in particular, she had an unusual opportunity: to request changes before the property was even delivered, which was purchased by a Brazilian family while still in the planning stage.

"There were few changes to the social area, but they changed the layout of the apartment a lot, expanding the living room and making the daily lives of the residents, a mother and her daughter, who often spend their holidays there, much more functional ," says Andrea.

The property had a hall at the entrance and another that separated the living room from the kitchen . Andrea removed the second hall, incorporating the space into the living room and creating a large walnut panel that hides the entrance to the kitchen, the guest bathroom and a closet that was in the hallway.

Another change was to transform the guest bathroom into a full bathroom to serve the guest room next to the living room. "As everything was defined during the construction, when the apartment was delivered we only needed to resolve the decoration details", explains the architect.
The option was for a very contemporary décor that contrasts with the original arched doors and windows, from which there is a beautiful view of the Tagus River .

As there is only one room, which is used for watching TV and entertaining, the furniture was chosen to have multiple functions: armchairs for reading, for a conversation circle, a comfortable sofa, and side tables. Italian design furniture, as well as the dining room furniture and the thin-lined shelving for small objects, feature a mix of materials that are the architect's trademark. There is a sideboard made of painted glass, mirrors, marble, wood and even a sisal rug.

Everything to bring that very Brazilian flair to the apartment. On the walls, which have been given a strong shade of blue , two works of art stand out: a painting by Manoel Novello , brought from Brazil by the owner, and a panel of 18th-century tiles bought in an antique shop in Lisbon.

In the bedrooms, which were not very large, everything is very cozy with different wallpaper patterns – always an extra texture for the environment – and solutions such as the end-to-end headboard in the daughter's room and the desk next to the bed in the mother's suite.
