Listen to the Podcast now on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2EPMTQx Think of Bahia. Feel a living image come to life, shimmering in a colorful dance against the brightness of the high sun. Breathe in the salt water blowing against your face and remember all the skins, all the saints and all the colors. Throw it all away and think again. Far from what the common imagination has established about the Bahian experience,
Nildo José created
Casa Dendê Duratex for
CASACOR São Paulo 2019. His interpretation descends some layers of personal experience, and it is in this way that he transcribes a new spectrum of Bahia: under the perception of a Bahian. The review sheds light on just two tones: Jacaranda brown, a hard, dark wood native to Bahia, and hammock linen, a simple texture that revisits coastal architecture.

Stone materials are given rough contours on the floor and in the center of the living room. Along with a generous glass wall, naturalness and ample lighting are guaranteed. The garden that opens onto it is designed by
Bia Abreu , complete with Saint George's swords. in reference to the religious and mystical people of Bahia.
The living room also houses an original shelf from the office. Spacious, it takes up a wall with a display of bottles of cachaça, which replace the liquid with sand from Bahia – a creative and subtle decoration that refers to the Recôncavo without being obvious.

Sky and sea form a single horizon in the portico, the result of the rounded effect that the dark wood panel creates between the wall and the ceiling, blurring the boundaries between vertical and horizontal. The specific curves that make up the clean architecture, abundant in straight lines, resemble the Bahian Recôncavo. A lounge with four armchairs shares space with the dining table, or gourmet island, designed by Nildo, in a reinterpretation of an original design by the Frenchman
Joseph Dirand . In addition, the burnt cement covering of the walls creates an interesting contrast with the wood and makes strong reference to the light and simple style of Bahian beach houses.
