The family with three teenage children had been living in this building on
São Conrado beach (RJ) for years. But they began to feel the need for more space to entertain friends. The solution was to buy a
duplex penthouse , two floors above, and do a complete renovation to make the new property exactly like the previous one.
"We had already completed the renovation work on the old apartment ten years earlier and they lived so well there that they wanted to practically reproduce the same layout on the first floor of the penthouse, since the previous layout was very well designed and still perfectly met the family's needs. It was even difficult to propose new solutions", recalls
Mauricio Nóbrega , the architect responsible for both renovations and a member of the
CASACOR Rio team.
In addition to reproducing the layout of the old penthouse apartment,
all of the old furniture was also reused . The few changes to the layout were made due to the growth of the children. The two boys who previously shared a
bedroom now have individual spaces (and the same bathroom).
The daughter received a complete suite made in the dining room space, which, in the old apartment, was occupied by a
family room .
To create the couple's master suite, in addition to joining two bedrooms (the same solution as the previous property), it was also necessary to take a part of the living room to make a second, smaller closet for the husband.
There is a generous space for entertaining friends, with a large living
room , dining room and a fully equipped gourmet
kitchen , as the couple loves to cook.
The space also functions as a connection point between the internal social area and the terrace, where a
swimming pool and sauna were built facing the beach . On the other side, a smaller terrace overlooks Pedra da Gávea and the sunset.
"The idea is that this upper space would be completely open, with glass doors and terraces all around to fully enjoy the
wonderful view and the hang gliding flights that pass very close to the terrace," says Mauricio.
The wood, used in panels, furniture and even the ceiling, brings the cozy feel that the space needed.
