Does the idea of a transparent bathroom seem inconceivable to you? Are you also lacking the courage to install translucent cabins in your home? That is what architects Carolina Oliveira and Juliana Kapaz, from Unik Arquitetura , and Patrícia Salgado, from Estúdio Aker , tried to subvert in the project Voyeur Bathroom for CASACOR São Paulo 2019 . The term "voyeur" comes from French and refers to a passive subject who is satisfied with observing other people. It can even go so far as to violate other people's privacy, as portrayed in Alfred Hitchcock's film Rear Window – a classic work that offers a great portrayal of the practice. Voyeurism gains perspective and a concrete place in the project with the Osso bench, by Rafic Farah and Otávio Coelho, positioned in front of the cabins. It’s worth noting, however, that the architects didn’t take the term too literally. Privacy is guaranteed thanks to the polarized glass technology that was installed on the cabin doors – and initially, it was impossible to distinguish them. The system is only activated when the visitor starts to close the door. The glass receives an electric shock that transforms it from translucent to opaque, so that it is not possible to see anything beyond the glass. To further stimulate the visitor's senses, the architects used the trompe l'oeil technique – a type of optical illusion that expands perspective and gives the illusion of continuity, applied to landscape photos by artists Luis Bertini and E.
