The young couple lived in a building in Barra da Tijuca (RJ), when they decided to take advantage of the
160 m² property next door – which is slightly larger and was rented – as soon as it was vacated. Before moving in, the couple commissioned architects
Ana Luisa Cairo and Gustavo Prado , from the
A+G Arquitetura office, to carry out a complete renovation project, covering all the rooms, including the decor, which is completely new.

“They wanted a
minimalist apartment, without being impersonal, and at the same time cozy . They also asked for a home office space separate from the suites where they could both work, occasionally. Finally, they asked for an integrated kitchen that could be isolated from the living room, when necessary,” says Ana Luisa.

During the renovation, almost all of the apartment’s interior walls were demolished to adapt the plan and
layout to the couple’s needs. Originally, the apartment had four bedrooms. During the renovation, one bedroom, the guest bathroom and the service room were demolished. The walls in the living room and kitchen were also removed to expand the living area and create the couple’s home office and closet, which were not in the original plan. “We transformed the old service bathroom into the current guest bathroom and also integrated the balcony with the living room,” says Gustavo.

In the color palette, the architects created a
neutral base, full of natural materials, such as wood, marble, fiber and leather . “We painted the walls white to enhance the presence of natural light in the spaces and covered the floor of the living room, office, balcony, bedrooms and bathroom with solid tauri wood planks to make the apartment more welcoming and create a visual unity”, reveals Gustavo.

To add a touch of contemporary style to the project,
metalwork solutions, cement textures and black details were also used – on a smaller scale – such as the pair of organically shaped coffee tables and the metal structure of the armchair and sofa. Colors are also used in the artwork, the upholstery of the mustard sofa and the green of the natural vegetation.
