A family from Rio made up of a young couple with two young children lived in a smaller apartment and wanted to rent a larger property in Leblon, which had a spacious living room to receive friends and family. As soon as they found their new 240 m² home, the new tenants asked architects Bitty Talbot and Cecília Teixeira , from Brise Arquitetura , to come up with a renovation project for the entire social space and part of the intimate area. “They wanted an apartmentthat was practical and easy to maintain on a daily basis to live with their young children who, despite having a toy room at home, like to be close to their parents most of the time”, says Bitty.

The architects say they only had three weeks to do basic painting, lighting and synthetic work on the existing floor before the family moved. The furniture was purchased little by little , in the final stretch of the work, taking a total of around six months until everything was ready. As the apartment is rented, the focus of the project was to design the layout and decorate spaces, without changing the plan of the property.

The wooden flooring (which received new synthetic material) and the wall of the current dining room covered with wooden panels were already in the apartment and were maintained, while the sofa in the living room with TV, the paintings and the couple's objects came from the old apartment.

“A fun detail in the room's decor is that the large canvas on the wall facing the window was painted by the boys together with their grandfather”, informs architect Cecília.

Among the new furniture in the social area, the architects prioritized pieces that could be easily used in a new address , with a similar size. According to them, the icing on the cake is, without a doubt, the Rosá coffee table, designed by designer Maria Cândida Machado , an old dream of the couple that has finally been realized.

In the room shared between the boys , all the carpentry was designed by the office, including a pull-out bed for each brother to accommodate a friend or cousin who will sleep in the apartment. A mural with a world map print was also applied to the wall, full of animals and means of transport which, in addition to decorating the space, also serves an educational function.

“The combination of jeans and red was also cute and each brother received a pillow with the initial of their name”, adds partner Cecília.
