A couple with a teenage daughter sought out architects Marina Romeiro and Felipe Maia, from the
Maia Romeiro Arquitetura office, shortly after purchasing this
140 m² apartment in Lagoa (RJ), looking for a general renovation project, including the decoration of all the rooms.
“They asked for a
comfortable living room , with plenty of seating and storage space, as well as two suites and a guest bathroom, since the original plan only had one suite and a guest bathroom,” says Marina. “Their dream was to have a house that embraced them, that would be a refuge at the end of a hard day’s work,” adds partner Felipe.
“Since they wanted a property to live in for many years, everything was designed to make the most of the spaces and highlight their qualities. We improved natural ventilation, creating, for example, cross ventilation by aligning the office door with the door leading to the living room. We also explored the texture of the wood, especially American oak,
mixing it with shades of blue and green to bring it to life ,” says architect Marina.
Designer Brazilian furniture – notably the pair of
Tetê armchairs by Sergio Rodrigues and the
two side tables by the sofa by Jader Almeida – are mixed with pieces by lesser-known designers, resulting in an eclectic mix. Among the works of art, the show-stealing piece is the large painting by artist
Manoela Monteiro , resting on the floor and leaning against the blue wall, right at the entrance to the room.
“In general, we adopted a color palette in shades of blue and green, present in the walls, furniture, carpentry and ornaments of all the rooms in the apartment, except the guest bathroom. To balance these cooler tones, we used a lot of natural wood, especially American oak, including the existing wooden plank flooring, which was maintained. To give the décor a light touch, we added white and
off-white ,” concludes architect Marina Romeiro.
