March begins and, with Carnival left behind, the cultural programming of São Paulo renews itself with a schedule full of news. The month brings must-see exhibitions, awaited premieres in cinema and theater, in addition to special shows that celebrate the talent of great women. On stage, performances starring renowned names in dramaturgy promise to move the audience. Next, check out our selection of 19 must-see programs to experience culture in the capital of São Paulo!

Ney Matogrosso - MIS


The exhibition "Ney Matogrosso", which opens on February 21, presents a chronological path of the artist's career, from his debut with the group "Secos & Molhados" to his album "Nu com minha música". Divided into six areas, the exhibition features costumes, props, documents, album covers, posters, and CDs, as well as excerpts from an interview with Ney and iconic photographs from various phases, with works by Madalena Schwartz, Thereza Eugênia, Ary Brandi, and Daryan Dornelles.

"Vetores-Vertentes: Photographers from Pará" - Banco do Brasil Cultural Center


The exhibition "Vetores-Vertentes: Photographers from Pará" at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center highlights the photographic production of women from the Brazilian Amazon, bringing together artists from two generations with more than 40 years of experience. With a decolonial curatorial focus, the exhibition showcases around 170 works, including photographs, artistic journals, videos, and audios, addressing themes like gender and regionalism.

The sensory experience is enhanced with emerging technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), in addition to an aromatic installation that transports visitors to the region of Nhamundá. The exhibition celebrates Amazonian photographic art, exploring its cultural and visual aspects.

Zanele Muholi: Brave Beauty - Instituto Moreira Salles


The retrospective exhibition of Zanele Muholi, one of the most renowned photographers in the contemporary scene, presents the work of a visual activist who, since the 2000s, documents the life of the Black LGBTQIAPN+ community in South Africa and other parts of the world.

The show at the Instituto Moreira Salles presents its main photographic series, highlighting "Faces and Phases" (a vast project that portrays lesbian, bisexual, non-binary, and transmasculine individuals since 2006, with hundreds of images), "Somnyama Ngomyama" (self-portraits addressing issues like racism, work, Eurocentrism, and sexuality), "Brave Beauties" and unpublished works produced in Brazil.

"Dream Like a Girl" - Biblioteca Parque Villa-Lobos


The exhibition "Dream Like a Girl" proposes a narrative and visual journey to redefine the role of women in society, uniting art, poetry, humor, and science. Opened on March 8, at the Biblioteca Parque Villa-Lobos, the exhibition culminates a project that already promoted workshops, reading circles, and research on feminine desires. Idealized by Camila Alves, the exhibition highlights stories of 13 inspiring women in various fields, in an immersive and sensory environment with a circus aesthetic.

The life that reveals itself - Japan House


The exhibition "The life that reveals itself", held for the first time in Brazil, occupies the second floor of the Japan House São Paulo, in collaboration with the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival, one of the most important photography events since its establishment in Kyoto in 2013. The exhibition features four series of photographs from Rinko Kawauchi (1972) and Tokuko Ushioda (1940), depicting family moments and the intimacy of their homes in Japan.

Renata Lucas: Sunday in the park - Pinacoteca


In Sunday in the park, Renata Lucas radicalizes her work by intervening in the Pina Estação and its surroundings. On the facade, a sign displays “Tomorrow there is no fair,” a quote from Gilberto Gil, visible only from the square. In Largo General Osório, a circle with a radius of 6.4 meters is cut, simulating an anti-clockwise turn that intertwines sidewalk and garden, evoking the Ferris wheel mentioned in the song.

LGBTQIA+ Stories - MASP


The exhibition LGBTQIA+ Stories at MASP reflects on the global inequality faced by queer and trans people, contrasting advances in visibility with ongoing repression. Divided into eight cores, it brings together works by artists and activists that explore identity, desire, and spirituality, also addressing the impact of the HIV-AIDS pandemic. Prima Facie - Teatro VIVO


"Prima Facie", written by Suzie Miller, debuted in 2022 and quickly became a global success, including Broadway and the West End. Débora Falabella plays Tessa, a successful lawyer facing a personal crisis, reflecting on the judicial system and power relations.
