The
Modern Art Week of 22 will reach its centenary on February 13, and many Brazilian cities are already thinking about how to celebrate. São Paulo has already announced its plans (which are quite ambitious, by the way):
100 days of celebration! The
22+100 Project , led by the city government, has a series of activities that began on January 22 and will continue until May 1, Labor Day.

The proposal of the Municipal Department of Culture is to present
a more current version of the artistic movements that are taking place in the city today . The municipal secretary of Culture, Aline Torres, argues that "in 1922, it was the intellectual class of artists who introduced Modernism. Today, 100 years after the modernists claimed an art that was truly ours, it is the thriving periphery that is introducing Modernism." The project aims to show that it is not necessary to be an academic or intellectual to develop culture, and therefore, it aims to
give voice to art made in the periphery .
Municipal Theater
In 1922, the Municipal Theater hosted the Modern Art Week, and therefore, it will have a special program full of activities. The space will house the art installation
Recostura , by artist
Chris Tigra , right on its main façade. Between February 10th and 17th,
a week of special activities with a modernist theme is scheduled, such as shows by the Coral Paulistano, Orquestra Experimental de Repertório, Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo, a show by Dona Onete and DJ Ju Salty and also the debut of a new season of the Balé da Cidade. Street Art Museum (MAR)
To celebrate the centennial, a new edition of MAR will feature
new works distributed across several addresses, in every corner of the city.
Graffiti , posters and photographs with a modernist theme are some of the formats that can be found in downtown São Paulo, among them are
22 portraits in homage to 22 modernists , reinterpretations made by contemporary indigenous, black and white artists. In addition, São Paulo will also host
100 temporary sculptures featuring major names in modernism from the Week of 22, such as Mário de Andrade, Tarsila do Amaral, Anita Malfatti and Oswald de Andrade.
The monuments will be located throughout the city , especially in peripheral areas.
Itororó Village
Vila Itororó is a
Cultural Center in the Bixiga neighborhood , one of the best-known places for bohemian São Paulo, which will also participate in the centenary celebrations by serving as a stage for the
Saudosa Maloca Modernista group, a samba circle that expresses what modernism means to a new generation. Check out the full schedule

Ibirapuera Park
One of the city's most famous tourist attractions could not be left out of the celebrations. The activity called "
Weekend at Ibirapuera Park " will have leisure options for all ages, such as the Modern Art Week, aimed at children; Modernist Dances, a party celebrating black and indigenous culture; and also a modernist conversation circle at the Library.
Anhangabau Valley
A show in Vale do Anhangabaú will mark the
end of the 100 days of tribute , on May 1st. The artists who will perform have not yet been announced, and the schedule is subject to change depending on the progress of Covid-19 and Ômicron.
