Presenting its 10th art exhibition, the traditional department store Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris is receiving several monumental crochet works by renowned Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto , created in his workshop in Rio de Janeiro. For the occasion, the artist has developed his interpretation of the Western myth of the origin of life through the figures of Eve, Adam and the Serpent. The proposal was conceived based on the organic sculptures of Eve and Adam suspended on opposite sides of the store's central escalator. The figures are intertwined by the monumental Serpent installation, resulting in a visual representation of the balance and connection between feminine and masculine energies. The requirement presented to the artist for the exhibition to take place was the need to work with the color white , in reference to the “Month of White” initiated by Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut, founders of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in the 19th century.
Named “ Le La Serpent ,” the artistic intervention transforms the store’s spaces , including the display windows, the atrium beneath the glass domes, and the second floor. Among the natural materials highlighted by Neto are cotton, clay, dried leaves, and spices , bringing their organic aesthetic to the store’s sophisticated ambiance. On display since January 11, the exhibition will be open to the public until February 23, anticipating the France-Brazil season that begins in April.
