A
floating cloud-shaped space was the MAD office's bet for the
Cloud Center , responsible for the operations and functioning of a more secure and encrypted storage technology system. The idea came from the term
cloud , which in English means "cloud". The site is located in northeastern China, in Qinhuangdao, near the Beidaihe coast. With
a total area of 3,853 m² , the building was designed to house different cultural spaces, such as a theater, meeting rooms, cafe spaces and many more.
"When viewed from a distance, the building appears as a 'cloud floating in the forest' with a sleek, reflective form activated by the changing light, sky and landscape," explained architects MAD Studio.
The
garden features rocks to give the space a more natural feel, to really convey the sensation of promoting a more cosmic and fantastical energy, as if the cloud were flying over a forest.
"This cosmic theme continues inside the garden, where a series of white rocks and undulating vegetation evoke the image of floating planets scattered across the universe," the studio said. The
architects also opted for elements to give the project more flexibility , such as arrangements and movable walls in the interior to divide the common spaces. Source: Dezeen
