Book shows the historical architectural transformations of São Paulo
In the 1950s and 1960s, São Paulo witnessed an unprecedented architectural revolution . Thanks to the union of visionary architects, bold entrepreneurs and access to financial capital, the city saw the emergence of icons such as the Copan, Conjunto Nacional and Edifício Itália , transforming its urban skyline. "São Paulo nas Alturas" , a book by journalist Raul Juste Lores, delves into this time of transformation. With a reissue in 2024, expanded to 376 pages and an updated conclusion, the work stands out as the best-selling architecture book of the last twenty years in Brazil.
More than a book about architecture, it is a journey through the untold history of the city . According to the author, São Paulo still lacks adequate storytelling about its urban development. In this new version, the book delves into topics such as the Master Plan, inflation, economy and immigration , shedding light on the urban choices that shaped the metropolis and their social consequences. With an introduction by Marcos Lisboa and text by Isay Weinfeld, "São Paulo nas Alturas" not only portrays the city's skyscrapers, but also the pillars that support its history and identity. Launch of the reissue "São Paulo in the Heights" Location: Travessa Bookstore Date: March 5, 2024 Time: from 6:30pm
