José Paulo Gouvêa will design the Brazilian Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020

Inspired by the Rio Negro, the project presented by José Paulo Gouvêa has water as its main element

José Paulo Gouvêa was the professional chosen to design the Brazilian Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020. The architect won the competition, organized by the Institute of Brazilian Architects (IAB), and was selected to lead the initiative together with the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion (Apex-Brasil). The project presented by José Paulo Gouvêa has water as its main element. In 4 thousand square meters, the pavilion will have most of its space occupied by a thin sheet of water representing Brazilian rivers, where visitors can walk. The experience will be completed by a game of projections, sounds and aromas.
The competition had the participation of 42 architecture firms and the finalists were architect Andre Scarpa (SP), who received an honorable mention, Anna Carolina Manfroi Galinatti (RS) came in third place and Fabiano José Arcadio Sobreira came in second place. The selection had as a guideline technological innovation with sustainable design, evidenced in the process of construction and disassembly of the structure. Expo 2020 is a world exhibition organized by the Bureau International des Expositions, which will be held in the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, between October 20, 2020 and April 10, 2021. These universal exhibitions take place every five years and are large events, in which the biggest attraction are the pavilions of the participating countries, which feature exhibitions, cultural and gastronomic activities, seminars and networking events. In 2020, with the theme Connecting Minds , Creating the Future , Expo Dubai will be organized into three thematic axes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. The Brazilian Pavilion will be part of this last thematic axis, reaffirming the importance of biodiversity, the culture of preservation the environment, competitiveness based on sustainability and the portrayal of Brazilian multiculturalism.
