Making his debut at
CASACOR Rio , architect and urban planner
Tom Castro is the youngest black architect in the show, at just 25 years old, and is responsible for this edition's Galeria + Lavabo. In the project, he
exalts ancestry by seeking a connection with affective memories through the use of
original raw materials , such as wood and clay.
In its Gallery, the walls are covered in
ebonized woodwork that highlights both the
contemporary and national design furniture and the works of art on display:
photographs that exalt black bodies and archetypes .
In the bathroom, materials with tones that refer to
elements rooted in natural constructions , such as
red earth , were used. An organic and very original décor.
Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from UNESA,
Tom Castro had his final course research developed into articles published in partnership with the University of Aveiro/Portugal. He interned with landscaper Daniela Infante and collaborated with Claudia Aguiar at Empório Maria Maria, where he built part of his repertoire in residential projects and interior design in the Itaipava region.
