MIS, Japan House, IMS and Pinacoteca are packed with exhibitions that will be part of the city's cultural calendar in the last month of 2024

To end 2024 with art and inspiration , the city of São Paulo offers an unmissable cultural program this December! Highlights include Thomaz Farkas, todomundo , at the Instituto Moreira Salles, a cinematic immersion in O cinema de Billy Wilder , at MIS, and the impressive sculptures of Flávio Cerqueira, at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. Thomaz Farkas, EVERYONE - Moreira Salles Institute


Thomaz Farkas, photographer, businessman and filmmaker, left a remarkable legacy in the Brazilian cultural scene. The exhibition "Thomaz Farkas, todomundo", at the Instituto Moreira Salles, celebrates the artist's centenary with around 500 items, including photographs, films and documents, exploring his inclusive and collaborative trajectory. Divided into axes, it highlights documentary series such as Brasil Verdade and A Condição Brasileira, as well as films such as Todomundo and Subterrâneos do Futebol, which reflect his welcoming vision of Brazil. The exhibition recreates Farkas' collective spirit, evident in his artistic production, cultural incentives and the founding of Galeria Fotoptica.

Dan Lie: letting go - Pinacoteca


Dan Lie presents the installation "Letting Go" at the Octagon of Pinacoteca Luz, in dialogue with the monumental scale of the space. Using organic materials such as plants, bacteria, fungi and decomposing matter, the work offers a sensory experience in constant transformation, with cycles of life and death perceptible with each visit. Life that reveals itself - Japan House


The exhibition "A vida que se revela", held for the first time in Brazil , occupies the second floor of Japan House São Paulo , in collaboration with the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival, one of the most important photography events since its creation in Kyoto in 2013. The exhibition displays four series of photographs by Rinko Kawauchi (1972) and Tokuko Ushioda (1940) , which portray family moments and the intimacy of their homes in Japan. Half of the Double, by Carlito Carvalhosa - Tomie Ohtake Institute


The exhibition "Carlito Carvalhosa – A meia do dobro", at the Tomie Ohtake Institute, presents the trajectory of the São Paulo artist between 1984 and 2021. Curated by Ana Roman, Lúcia Stumpf, Luis Pérez-Oramas and Paulo Miyada, the exhibition explores painting, sculpture and installation , occupying three rooms with works that dialogue between permanences and tensions , without chronological order. An audio catalogue and a public program with meetings, workshops and experiences complement the exhibition. When: Until February 2, 2025

Billy Wilder's Cinema - MIS


The "Billy Wilder's Cinema" exhibition at the MIS pays homage to the renowned 20th century filmmaker, with recreations of iconic sets and highlights from 13 of his 27 films , including Sunset Boulevard and Some Like It Hot. Curated by André Sturm, the exhibition occupies three floors of the museum , providing an immersion into Wilder's work. Texts by specialist Ana Lúcia Andrade , author of "Intelligent Entertainment – Billy Wilder's Cinema", enrich the experience. "Flávio Cerqueira - a sculptor of meanings" - CCBB


Flávio Cerqueira celebrates 15 years of his career with an unprecedented retrospective at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil São Paulo. His figurative bronze sculptures, which capture narrative moments and invite the public to complete the stories , are the focus of the exhibition. The exhibition, which covers his entire career, is curated by Lilia Schwarcz and brings together works by the artist that are present in important museums in Brazil and abroad.

John Graz, Designer - dpot


An exhibition on the design of John Graz is on display at dpot, highlighting his legacy as a multifaceted artist and pioneer of interior architecture in Brazil. The exhibition brings together his creations, including furniture illustrations and design pieces, which reflect his innovative approach and the influence of Brazilian art deco.

WG Galeria celebrates its first year of activities with the exhibition Rupturas Imaginadas , on display until January 2025. Curated by Maria Luiza Meneses, the show brings together the works of Larissa Anne, Danilo Cunha and André Firmiano , who, based on their trajectories and relationship with the city, reflect on urban, social and cultural tensions. The exhibition questions the dynamics of class, race and gender in São Paulo, exploring how different social classes and identities intersect and become simultaneously distant and interdependent.
