Welcome Terrace
CASACOR Santa Cruz de la SierraThis year, Anita Fernández rescued ancestral knowledge from some of Bolivia's indigenous peoples; her guiding thread was dye plants. She applied them to articles on the Welcome Terrace, her assigned space in the exhibition. It is a kind of greenhouse, with the charm of native plants from the region. The sofa's tapestry is made with garabatá, a plant fiber woven by the Ayoreo people in the community of Tobité. On the other hand, she exhibits a rug made by indigenous people from four Quechua and Aymara communities; it is made of alpaca wool and is dyed with coca leaves. The site pays homage to flora scholars, such as Noel Kempff and Elvira Espejo, and gives an account of the protected forests.
