There is no shortage of
sustainable solutions in this 650 m² house designed by the
Arquitectura en Estudio (aRE) office: the construction
adapts to the topography of the land to minimize the impact on the landscape,
uses renewable natural materials and
local labor and takes advantage of the
green roof to maintain thermal comfort and not need air conditioning.

Located in the city of Villeta, Colombia, the project is called Casa 23 and is made up of a series of stepped platforms set into the mountainside that jut out toward views of the valley. The upper volume houses the living and service spaces and the master
bedroom . Guest quarters are at the bottom.

The external areas are spread throughout the residence and on different levels - they are interconnected by
stairs and
small gardens spread across the floors and by the vegetation on the green roof .

“By separating and staggering the volumes, the house allows all living spaces to have an uninterrupted view of their surroundings,” explain the professionals.

On the facade, wooden screens can be opened and closed according to residents' preferences, creating movement, privacy and shade when necessary.
Along with the large openings, the landscaped patios help with natural ventilation - a solution that eliminated the need for air conditioning in the residence.
