Accompanied by his wife, Lúcia Helena Massa, and his granddaughter Lucinda, writer Luis Fernando Verissimo visited CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul last Thursday, August 1st. The special visit was to see the environment created in his honor at the exhibition gaúcha, which will be on display until September 8th, at the old Children's Hospital (Av. Ceará, 1549), in Porto Alegre. Designed by architect Izabela Pagani and curated by Cézar Prestes, the “Sala do Luis” space features objects from the writer’s personal collection, aligned with new developments in architecture and design. The professional's proposal was to create an environment for reading, creating and appreciating music in honor of the writer, columnist and musician's 50 years of journalism. Jazz and Luis Fernando's home were the main inspirations for the development of the project. To compose the environment, Izabela delved deeply into his history and had access to the spaces he most frequented in his residence, located in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. “The main bookshelf, for example, was based on the lyrics of the song Samba de Verão, one of the songs most played by the writer from Rio Grande do Sul and by the quintet Jazz Seis”, says Izabela. Another highlight of the space is the use of pau-ferro wood, which was chosen because it is the most commonly used wood in the production of musical instruments, a passion of the honoree. One of the writer's most sacred spaces, the desk, has been updated with an inspiration from the furniture in where the chronicler's drawings were created. On the furniture, the professional placed original engravings, cartoons and cartoons by Luis Fernando, as well as colored pencils and pens used by the artist. The painting “A loving mother with her family walking in Rio de Janeiro”, signed by the artist Glauco Rodrigues, should also attract attention. The oil on canvas painting portrays Luis Fernando’s wife, Lucia, and his daughters Fernanda and Mariana. children in 1968. The portrait of her son Pedro was inserted later, in 1991, at the request of the boy himself. In addition to these pieces, the space is composed of several photographs, sketches and memories that were selected by the architect with the help of the writer's wife. “The family universe prevails in the environment created for the exhibition. Being able to see the residence up close was fundamental to the result of this work. The house, which also belonged to his father, Érico Veríssimo, is an art gallery that portrays the family’s affection and friends”, says the architect.
