The destruction of large areas of the Pantanal by fires has gained national and international media coverage in recent times, especially in 2020, when the region suffered with more than 30% of its territory destroyed by flames . A set of official and voluntary actions allowed the expansion of the fire to be controlled, but the risk of new crises constantly threatens the region's residents. In this sense, Documenta Pantanal announced a collective auction that aims to raise funds for SOS Pantanal to invest in rural fire-fighting brigades. The initiative aims to raise 1 million reais from the sale of renowned contemporary works of art . The project is based on raising awareness among a group of women recognized for their continuous defense of the Pantanal within the visual arts market. Among them are Fernanda Feitosa, Mari Stockler, Mônica Guimarães, Paula Azevedo, Susana Steinbruch, Teresa Bracher and Monica Tinoco. The collection process will continue until March 31st. After that, a catalog will be produced and launched virtually on May 1st. The auction will take place on May 26th , at 8pm.

For Teresa Bracher , creator and one of the organizers of Documenta Pantanal, the auction is very important because, in addition to generating resources for fire prevention and control, it also raises awareness of the beauty and threats of the Pantanal . “Brazilians need to pay attention to the Pantanal.
