The CASACOR Archathon is an architecture and design marathon that aims to showcase the emerging work of young professionals, who are about to graduate or have recently graduated. This year, this Arch&Design championship will be held for the first time in the state of Minas Gerais . In the first stage, there were 614 entrants and 184 complete and valid entries. However, only 30 teams were classified. During the marathon, the teams selected for the second phase will be guided by mentors – renowned professionals in the market – who will act as advisors and provide full support for the development of the projects within the event’s proposal. While waiting for the green traffic light, you've probably stopped to look at a building designed by architect João Diniz
. In the Funcionários neighborhood, you'll find the Omini Center and Capri or the Scala Workcenter in Barro Preto. If you're used to walking around downtown Belo Horizonte, you'll have noticed the urban design of the closed blocks of Praça 7. And that's not all; we can mention the architect's work in design, scenography, video, photography and even poetry. At CASACOR Minas, his most recent work is the Pamp Pavilion , a type of pavilion built using only steel and which served as the entrance portal to the exhibition. Take a look back at the project . Schedule 05/26/2017 – Lectures and a chat with professionals considered market references 05/27/2017 – The big challenge: the creative marathon 05/28/2017 – Presentations, judging and awards
How the project marathon works On the first day, ArchDay takes place, a time reserved for presenting relevant information and aspects to participants, where they will be encouraged to reflect on current topics. Lectures and chats with leading professionals and brands, as well as institutions in the segment, such as the Brazilian Design Association – ABD. On this day, the brands/stores that are partners of
Archathon reveal some tips for participants, but it is only on the morning of the second day that everyone finds out what the big challenge of this edition will be. Once the timer starts, the groups will have approximately 14 hours to complete the mission: to design one of the
CASACOR Minas environments using products from the event's partner companies. During the
Archathon , several surprises and activations are included to liven up the competition. Participants also have the help of mentors. On the last day, participants give a five-minute presentation to a panel of mentors, who choose six finalists. These finalists then present their project to the Judging Panel. At the end, the judges meet and choose the winning group. Source:
