Sustainable Communities: contact with nature permeates Peruvian villages

In Peru, contact with nature is the main pillar that guides the country's two sustainable communities. In these communities, actions to minimize impacts on the environment and live increasingly in harmony with it are highlighted by the villages. Kapievi Ecovillage, Peru


The community project, located in Puerto Maldonado, began in 2005, with an area of 1.5 hectares. Several projects – such as tourism and accommodation – are offered to the public. In addition to functioning as an ecological center, it also acts as a demonstration space for a private reserve, which seeks to cushion the impacts of the Transoceanic Highway.

Education: educational activities such as seminars, workshops, events and study programs are designed to disseminate holistic and sustainable knowledge; Bioconstruction : use of natural materials from the site or recycled materials, design with better use of spaces – to require the least use of resources possible -, Rubber gums, bottles and cans are widely used in construction; Agroforestry : this type of system combines forestry with agricultural and livestock farming, which improves the soil's nutritional capacity and produces a high level of food; Organic Agriculture: food cultivation technique that maintains original soil structures without altering its properties, using chemicals or transgenic seeds.
