A must-see stop at Milan Design Week is Rossana Orlandi’s Fuorisalone [an event held outside the Salone del Mobile]. Dedicated to design lovers from all over the world, the space is transformed to accommodate all the new creations selected by the gallery owner and hunter. of Milan talents. This year, with a focus on the green economy, Rossana Orlandi hosts a multidisciplinary project dedicated to recycling and sustainable design, with lectures, video screenings and exhibitions that collect the works of Dirk Vander Kooij, Núcleo, Massimiliano Adami, Alessandro Mendini, Pentatônica, Alcarol, Duccio Maria Gambi, UET, Andreu Carulla and Ecopixel. One of the big news of the week is the arrival of Google , which has chosen Rossana Orlandi for its debut in Milan , presenting Softwear , a project conceived by Lidewij Edelkoort in collaboration with Kiki van Eijk. The global trends guru and the Dutch designer have designed a installation that explores the seamless integration of high-tech products designed by Ivy Ross (Google's Vice President of Hardware Design) into everyday life. Within three rooms on the ground floor of the gallery, tapestries designed by van Eijk will be mounted in a home that illustrates Google's vision of the fusion of technology and lifestyle.
Designer Enrico Marone Cinzano, a pioneer in luxury collectible design, will present two new pieces of furniture, the Olive desk and the Pino coffee table. Matteo Cibic will launch a line of mosaics with DG Mosaic; Nika Zupanc will present her first line surfboards; Valerie Objects will showcase the latest collaborations with Muller Van Severen, Nendo, Maarten Baas, Sigve Knutson and Studio Wieki Somers; and Latvian designer Ermics, who after the success of his Ombre Chair , returns with new mirrors and screens. Designer Jun Yasumoto showcases his new AMI basket table collection designed for Yamakawa. In addition to the traditional Sunday brunch, the gallery is expanding its spaces to include new projects related to cuisine and hospitality: a new courtyard houses Illy's VIP Coffee Bar (with an installation by Jacopo Foggini) and the new restaurant Aimo and Nadia BistRo, led by Michelin-starred chefs Fabio Pisani and Alessandro Negrini. A social space that combines haute cuisine with the charm of interior design by Rossana Orlandi. In a sort of extension of the gallery, Rossana will show vintage pieces in tune with works by Mayice Studio, Hillsideout, Studio Vudafieri Saverino, Heewon Kim, McCollin Bryan, Emanuela Crotti, Ermix Alemães, Piet Hein Eek, Nika Zupanc and Kiki Van Eijk, on a background of floral fabrics, animal prints and ethnic decorations.
