To celebrate the 145th anniversary of the founding of the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios Cultural Center in São Paulo, a space dedicated to exhibitions, lectures and talks was opened at the institution recognized for its educational, professional and cultural scope. In 2014, a fire destroyed the century-old warehouse that housed the institution's cultural center and most of the collection of furniture, objects and works stored there. Designed by architect Ricardo Julião, the current Liceu de Artes e Ofícios Cultural Center has maintained the main architectural features of the space. From the original building, for example, the portico, the pillars and the entire metal structure that supported the building remain, but they are now merely decorative components.
The other, "Design Brasil Século XXI", is curated by designer Fernanda Sarmento, and its mission is to present to the public the current state of the national design scene and the professionals who stand out. There are 50 pieces of Brazilian furniture and objects that take sustainability as a parameter, use materials that reduce environmental impact and work with social inclusion. The pieces are by Zanine de Zanine, Marcelo Rosenbaum, Irmãos Campanas, and new designers in the market - some of whom have just graduated from university.
One of the promising young architects and designers are Luciana Pitombo and Felipe Stracci from Plantar Ideias. The couple, who have only been in the studio for two years, are already attracting public attention for their dedication to portraying the preservation of Brazilian fauna and flora using urban materials such as concrete and iron. With this vision, they have already managed to win very important sites such as SP Arte and CASACOR São Paulo, which took place this year.
The Cultural Center of the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts of São Paulo is located at Rua Cantareira, 1351 - Luz - São Paulo, SP.
