The French Riviera is the setting for many films, known for its sophistication and the vast blue of its coastal waters, which stand out from the horizon and become the main characters. The destination served as an inspiration for artists such as Renoir and Monet, and was home to the residence of the designer Coco Chanel. Overlooking the Cote d'Azur, Villa La Pausa extends over 43,000 m², and its Provençal design is the starting point for Michel Safatle 's project for CASACOR São Paulo 2019 . Even the name comes from French terrain: Casa Pausa , which leaves room for interpretation of another facet of the project, the Zen-Orientalist influence.

The colors move between Asian and European spheres, rethinking natural tones – such as sand, oatmeal and ivory – with a touch of red. Black is the base on which the dialogue takes place, defining the contrast with the walls. parchment.

Textures play a decisive role in space. They compose the visual play with precision, in an environment that is renewed with each look – the countless details capture the attention little by little, building up into isolated narratives that enrich the picture as a whole. Art is a path through which this construction is made. Ruy Teixeira 's photograph, for example, takes shape on the bed – which is actually a tatami-style bed frame, covered in rustic silk. The two palms, facing upwards and downwards, hit by direct light, they evoke a certain religiosity: a decisive touch to consecrate the Zen soul of the project. Furthermore, the floating sphere is notably one of the project's identities. The 125-centimeter diameter sphere was designed by Isamu Noguchi and is part of Michel Safatle's personal collection.

An eye-catching sculpture, the tree carved from natural branches and foliage was created exclusively for the sofa scene, and leaves its mark from every angle of the space. The space also displays two works by Tarsila do Amaral : on the black lacquer of the coffee table rests the sculpture The Angel, from 1949, which dialogues with the painting The Black Woman, produced 26 years earlier. Both works were loaned to Safatle, who as a child used to visit the artist's family home and play in the shade of the works.

The appreciation of natural shapes and textures appears in the bathtub area, with the striking black and white natural panel, which sets the tone of the region. In addition, a letter written by Chico Xavier to Tarsila was redecorated with dried flowers and leaves, giving the necessary emphasis on the affective, cultural and historical value of the text.
A granite countertop with a black background welcomes visitors right at the entrance, a trend that gives the space a modern touch. The dining room furniture reflects the selected character of the entire project, and is designed by Zanine Caldas . CASACOR SAO PAULO 2019: WHEN?
