Miguez's most recent research is divided into two main paths developed from his personal and affective field of reference : small-format paintings, reinterpretations of fragments of works by Renaissance masters , and combinatorial and geometric experiments derived from the schematic planning of volumes. In recent years, the artist has dedicated himself to reinterpreting fragments of works by Renaissance masters such as Simone Martini, Giotto , Fra Angelico , and Piero della Francesca . Pioneers in the field of spatiality, perspective, and illusionism in painting from the late 13th century and throughout the 14th century, these masters constructed innovative compositions in their representations that included complex architectural structures , often as settings for religious events . By revisiting these old paintings, Miguez removes the narrative episodes from the representations, giving prominence to space, highlighting the geometry present in these fragments displaced by the artist. Exposição Fábio Miguez - Galeria Nara Roesler By emphasizing the spatial aspect of pre-Renaissance compositions, the artist also establishes a point of contact between elements of the history of European painting and Brazilian art , especially the 20th century movements linked to the constructive tradition, which dwell in greater depth on form and spatiality. The second shortcut in the series takes us to another dimension of the investigation, which derives from research that began through the planning of paper boxes : through the schemes obtained from them, Miguez began to observe the combinatorial structure present there, the rules that made up the set, and the exceptions suggested by these rules, through which the work unfolded into a series of possible compositions and new formal arrangements .

Fábio Miguez lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. His background in architecture brings a constructivist influence, which manifests itself in works from the period in which space gains increasingly defined contours. Since 2010 , Miguez has dedicated himself to the series “Atalhos” (Shortcuts) , in which he appropriates fragments and details of paintings by great masters, reworking them into small-scale paintings, employing repetitions and operations of inversion and mirroring. An offshoot of this set are the paintings in the series Volpi ”, in which the artist appropriates a fragment of a facade by the Italian-Brazilian painter, reworking it into large paintings.
