Galeria Almeida Prado needed to transfer its headquarters from Brasília to São Paulo and, therefore, they invited the architecture firm Debaixo do Bloco – from the
CASACOR cast – to design their new space in the Jardins neighborhood.
The new gallery occupies a narrow space measuring 13 m long by 4.5 m wide, which, despite its small size, does not lose out on comfort or beauty. The development is connected to the street that hosts it, and stands out for precast concrete blocks, which cover its entire facade, alongside lots of vegetation on the side wall and roof.
A central staircase takes visitors from one floor to the next, made of panels supported by a central beam. On the second floor, this same covering gains another functionality when it is dressed with yellow curtain screens, which serve as a surface for displaying works of art. of art. A large window acts as a showcase and creates communication between the street and the gallery's interior space.
In collaboration with gallery owner Fabio Almeida Prado, the interiors were defined by colors that reference the gallery’s brand: yellow, black and gray. Instead of using nails, the structures are hung with hanging chains to allow them to be displayed at different heights, without damaging the walls. The project, called
Galeria 11 seis 1, was internationally recognized by designboom !
