Giorgi Khmaladze Architects ' Georgian project looks more like a futuristic art installation than a commercial building. Emerging from the grass and blending in with it, the building sits in a remote area of Tbilisi and houses a coffee factory, office space, tasting and small exhibitions.

The high and low points follow where more space is needed for machinery, thus avoiding the traditional box-shaped design of factories. From above, a green roof accessible to occupants and made of native vegetation blends the building with the surroundings. Reducing the visual impact was necessary due to the proximity to the local airport. In addition, the vegetation cover serves as additional thermal insulation.

The closed aspect of the concrete finds its counterpoint in the “L”-shaped plan: the interior is open and faces a small pine forest. The interior is all integrated and connected by ramps. Each room is bathed in natural light and filled with plants. Small open atriums were also included so employees and visitors could enjoy nature.
