Between the wind and clouds of the municipality of São Miguel do Gostoso, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, stands Casa Módico, one of the recent and characteristic projects of Atelier Branco Arquitetura. The office explained to the ArchDaily portal that the intention was to imagine an appropriate response to local architectural traditions. The result was a building respectful of construction technology, ecologically sustainable and a reference point for the landscape.
Observing the longitudinal section, the intention of creating natural ventilation throughout all spaces of the house emerges. In effect, the separations between common and private spaces are defined by a brick composition that creates a filter that facilitates ventilation.
In the project, two main axes are defined: the first cuts perpendicularly through the ocean and connects all common areas, defining the sequence of symmetry of the house, and the second, parallel to the ocean waters, benefits natural resources for ventilation, either as a void or as a filter.
Four identical rooms develop together with this system, in these rooms the view from inside to outside is filtered by a wall of horizontal wooden slats that produces a kind of fade in the vibration of light.
Here too the simplicity of shape and colors: the balance of the walls, the natural wood of the shutters and the gray of the concrete floor are a quality that comes along a path and a project that is not simple, but that really requires maturity, wisdom and courage.
