For those who want to make the most of the holiday but couldn't plan a longer trip leaving from São Paulo, a day trip is the best shortcut. Within three hours of the capital, you can see the sea, head up the mountains, or stroll through a historic center. Below, check out some options to enjoy the day!
Ilhabela, São Paulo, Brasil. (Jurema Oliveira/Wikipedia Commons/CASACOR)
On the north coast, São Sebastião and Ilhabela remain sure bets for those who want sand and clear water without sacrificing solid infrastructure. While beaches like Maresias and Juquehy offer seaside restaurants and bars, Ilhabela balances trails, waterfalls, and more secluded stretches. For an efficient day trip, it's worth prioritizing a single beach and arriving early to avoid traffic.

About two hours from the capital, Campos do Jordão and Santo Antônio do Pinhal offer a climatic and visual counterpoint. Less obvious, the latter leans into quieter tourism, with studios, cafés, and viewpoints facing the Mantiqueira range. Campos, in turn, combines parks, gentle trails, and a well-established culinary scene.

For a cultural immersion, Embu das Artes and São Luiz do Paraitinga reveal distinct layers of São Paulo state heritage. Embu, less than an hour away, concentrates art fairs, galleries, and a charming center for wandering without a rigid itinerary. São Luiz do Paraitinga, farther out, rewards visitors with colonial houses, churches, and a more intimate connection with history.

Along the São Roque and Jundiaí corridor, rural tourism takes center stage. Wine routes, tastings, and restaurants overlooking vineyards create a sensory experience without requiring long journeys.

If the idea is to swap concrete for trails and waterfalls, Paranapiacaba and Socorro are solid bets. The English-built village, shrouded in mist and railway history, offers guided walks through the Atlantic Forest. Socorro, in turn, stands out for adventure tourism, with rafting, zip lines, and trails that can be tailored to different intensity levels.
