The gold-plated brass panels and finish reference Bulgari’s first boutique in Rome. "The pattern is inspired by the Condotti cornices of the Bulgari palace on Via Condotti [in Rome]," says MVRDV. "But for this store, [the pattern] is a solid facade without windows . We played with more freedom to achieve this artistic pattern." deco."

"Art Deco is a highlight of both the Bulgari brand heritage and Shanghai's architectural heritage , so we used it as a 'bridge' between the two," the studio continued.
MVRDV was influenced by the color and materiality of jade when visualizing the store facade, which has historically been celebrated as one of China’s most precious stones.
