Waste generation, noise pollution, high energy consumption, excessive use of water... these are some of the environmental impacts generated in civil construction. The adoption of sustainable materials comes into play to
minimize these harms at all stages of development . "Actions that aim to promote positive impacts on the environment have been increasingly valued by society and, in the context of civil construction, these practices bring many benefits, such as
greater comfort, better quality of spaces and tax incentives (such as green IPTU) ", says Murakami.

BubbleDeck system is a method that "aims to eliminate the concrete volume of a slab, providing more lightness and resistance", explains the specialist. Plastic spheres are included between steel screens that replace concrete, and end up offering lighter weight and
reducing costs and CO2 emissions .
Engineered wood
Engineered wood is an advanced material that "brings more efficiency, rationality, high precision and sustainability to construction projects".
The material is renewable and works to capture carbon dioxide, storing it throughout its useful life.
Steel Frame
Steel Frame and Wood Frame are
dry construction systems that are increasingly popular in Brazil and have even stood out in some
CASACOR exhibitions. In the case of Steel frames, the main focus is to replace ceramic or concrete blocks with frames made of
steel profiles with cementitious plates .

Sustentabilidade é a marca deste projeto: as paredes foram feitas com resíduos de obra (inclusive, com descartes de drywall da própria CASACOR), o revestimento foi executado por mulheres dos projetos Arquitetura na Periferia e Bioarquitetar, que coletaram terras de diferentes tonalidades em aterros, e a estrututa é toda de alumínio. Styrofoam® Panels
Isopor® is
100% recyclable , with its composition basically made of air and only 2% plastic. In civil construction, the material can be presented as slabs, ceilings, structural elements, tiles, coverings and even decorative items. The advantage is related to both the lightness of the final project and the use of a
material that can be reused later .
Drywall
Drywall has similar advantages to Isopor®. It is a
recyclable product that can replace walls and other structures . Water consumption stands out when using the material, as it is characterized as a tool for dry construction – therefore, the use of water resources is very low. In addition to the materials mentioned, Murakami also highlights others that are in development and others already available, such as
bioconcrete, plastic bricks (with material taken from the ocean), ecological paints, smart glass, etc. The specialist warns of the importance of searching for post-construction strategies, that is, in the operation of the building after construction is completed. "Many strategies can be adopted in the
selection of more efficient systems aligned with building automation controls that contribute significantly to a more sustainable operation", he recommends.
