The law, which comes into force on January 1, 2021, also prohibits the supply of disposable plastic drink stirrers and balloon sticks. Hotels, restaurants, bars and bakeries, among other commercial establishments, are subject to restrictions. The suggestion is to replace plastic items with utensils that fulfill the same function, but are made from biodegradable or reusable materials. Failure to comply with the law can lead to a variety of penalties, from warnings to administrative closure of the establishment.
