Solar energy has been gaining more and more ground in Brazil: according to a survey by the Brazilian Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR), the country has just surpassed the mark of
half a million connections for generating its own energy from photovoltaic solar sources . An expert on the subject,
Rodrigo Freire , CEO of
Holu , a startup that uses technology to offer the purchasing experience and integration of solar energy consumers with suppliers and financiers, highlights eight benefits of solar energy. Check it out:
1. Fast savings
Solar panels guarantee a
reduction of up to 95% in the electricity bill from the first moment after installation and approval by the distributor. The investment required for installation is paid back in a few years by the money saved by reducing expenses on the monthly bill – and, once paid off, the user will have at least
20 years of clean energy without any additional cost.
2. Property value increase
As it is a
long-term investment , solar energy contributes to the appreciation of the property by between 4% and 6%, according to a survey by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA).
3. Sustainability
As a clean, renewable and sustainable energy, solar generation helps to
significantly reduce dependence on fossil fuels such as petroleum derivatives, water consumption (used by thermoelectric and nuclear plants) and greenhouse gas emissions.
4. Easy access
Generally,
a single company is responsible for purchasing products, installation, approval, after-sales and all procedures - thus facilitating the work of the end consumer.
5. Low maintenance
The system can be cleaned
by the user/owner of the solar panels once a year using a hose and a cloth.
6. High resistance
Part of the long lifespan of solar energy systems is the result of their
significant resistance to damage caused by the actions of nature, such as rain, wind or even hail.
7. Social inclusion
Photovoltaic solar energy is a
good alternative for isolated regions where there is no electricity grid or that use diesel or fuel oil generators.
8. Indirect benefits
In Brazil, distributed solar generation guarantees more than
254 thousand new jobs and offers more than
R$ 12.1 billion in tax revenue .
