According to data from the Global Waste Management Outlook (GWMO), a UN report, Brazil is 50% below the average in the recycling rate in Latin America and by 2050 it is estimated that waste production will grow by more than 50%. Aware of this urgency, professionals from CASACOR Santa Catarina 2024 present sustainable solutions for conscious disposal, reuse and use of raw materials whose inputs derive from natural, recyclable materials and with low environmental impact. Below, check out some projects that highlight sustainable and technological solutions in the exhibition:

Kuya'buka Restaurant, 3P Studio and DG Architecture

Designed by architects Aline Pires, Natália Prates, Lavínia Duzzo and engineer Julia Prado, the project features several sustainable solutions, with emphasis on walls made of clay and construction waste – which is also used in the table bases.

Furthermore, the floor and benches are covered in Chukum , a handmade, natural and renewable material that is already considered a trend for sustainable alternatives. The tables in the space are made from stone scraps that would otherwise be discarded in marble shops, the chairs are made from reclaimed wood and the upholstery is made from fabric scraps.

In terms of decoration, the space emphasizes the use of ceramics and decorative tapestries made from natural materials and works of art made from waste, such as dry leaves and branches and recycled waste.

Shell House, IdeaBaln

Designed by landscaper Cintia Senna, architects Rafael Gomes and Sandro Batalha and architect and real estate agent Karol Stolf, the Casa Concha landscaping project features lighting that allows for automated control of intensity and color temperature, promoting energy savings and the healthy growth of plants in the environment.

The use of full spectrum lamps, which mimic sunlight, ensures that plants carry out photosynthesis properly, emitting the light bands essential for the development of the species . The space also features solutions that reflect sustainability in the pre- and post-exhibition process. The openwork panels in the carpentry were handcrafted from recycled MDF sheets that were going to be discarded. The curved ceiling, after the exhibition is dismantled, will be reused as lining for a future social shelter.

“The Future is Ancestral” Square, Ana Trevisan Living Spaces

Architect and landscaper Ana Trevisan was inspired by indigenous culture when choosing the plants and aesthetics for the project. Among the vases filled with edible flowers, plants and herbs with various health benefits, chairs and loungers, the ecological wooden platforms under the João Bolão tree stand out.
The Healing Garden , cultivated in modular planters, draws attention to the therapeutic properties of herbs and plants, especially in a time of excessive medication. Greenery is used without moderation in the vertical gardens , in this case, also covering the columns of the entrance hall portico. Spoiler CASACOR Santa Catarina | Florianópolis 2024. At night, the lighting project reveals the design of the square, highlighting the João Bolão tree, which receives a red light projection, addressing the devastating effects of recent fires on natural biomes and the lives of indigenous peoples.

Refuge of memories, SUM + Studio

The proposal for the environment designed by architect Bruna Tuon Sposito goes beyond aesthetics and values longevity, reuse and full use of resources, without waste.

In terms of furniture, pieces with history are reused , such as armchairs inherited from great-grandfathers and antique crockery. Furthermore, the freestanding furniture – the Regenera collection, by Dü Design – is made from Japanese grape wood. Its use is part of the entire production chain cycle: after the object is created, the leftover wood is used to make blocks for growing mushrooms.
