CASACOR Paraná expands its environmental efforts in 2026 with the implementation of a structured sustainability plan. The initiative deepens practices already adopted by the operation and advances on new fronts, such as carbon emissions inventory, environmental offsetting, material traceability, energy solutions and awareness actions.

Held in Curitiba — a city recognized worldwide for its waste management and strict guidelines for separation and disposal —, the show was already operating in line with municipal requirements and, over the past three years, has maintained a partnership with the Zero Waste program, run by the Municipal City Hall. In 2026, the partnership with GT Building, a company that carries sustainability in its DNA, consolidates and expands these efforts through an integrated approach capable of organizing processes and broadening the impact of the actions.

The project "CASACOR Paraná towards sustainability" is coordinated in partnership with Rose Guazzi, sustainable management consultant and architect specializing in sustainable projects and construction, with more than 20 years of experience in the field. The initiative encompasses the three pillars of sustainability — environmental, social and economic — and follows the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which brings together the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their 169 targets. According to Rose, the goal of this edition is to reveal what happens beyond the showcase of a large-scale event such as CASACOR. "We want to raise public awareness that everyone can contribute in their own way. Small actions, when combined, make a big difference for the planet," she states.

Sustainability in practice

The actions are divided into three fronts — construction period, during the show and post-event — and rely on the coordination of Adriana Kalinowski, coordinator of the Design City Institute project, which acts as a hub of solutions by connecting creative professionals, technology startups and companies in the sector. In the context of the show, the institute works as an integrator of sustainable initiatives, bringing together and enhancing the work of different partners.

Cross-cutting through all stages, the Solid and Recyclable Waste Management Plan includes the separation, collection and proper disposal of materials. In this process, the Reciclajuda Institute sells recyclables — such as paper, glass and plastic — to industry, reinserting them into the production chain. The revenue obtained is allocated to vocational courses for waste pickers registered in the project and their children, during after-school hours.

Construction period

During implementation, the actions focus on structuring the foundations of the plan. Waste management begins during construction, while Forte Desenvolvimento Sustentável conducts the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, considering variables such as material transport, freight, daily commutes and energy consumption. This stage also includes solutions developed by Energy Trade, such as on-site generation systems for the ticket booth (Grid Zero), tests of off-grid technologies for charging devices in rest areas (Pit Stop) and applications of Suntech hydrophobic products on exposed surfaces.

During the show

With the opening to the public, the plan enters its operational phase. Waste management remains active, the monitoring of emissions advances with the consolidation of collected data, and educational actions and social events become part of the program, broadening awareness about consumption and environmental impact.

In the energy field, off-grid charging points come into operation, along with generation systems for the ticket booth and interactive technologies for capturing energy through the movement of the public, such as floors with piezoelectric generation capable of transforming mechanical energy into electricity to power LED lighting.

Post-event

After the closing, the focus shifts to the dismantling and destination of materials, a stage considered critical for the environmental control of the event. At this moment, the traceability process of the products' life cycle stands out, developed with consultancy from Orbis Protocol, which monitors the path of the materials from CASACOR to their final destination. CASACOR Paraná is the first show in the world to adopt this technology, incorporating an unprecedented level of control and transparency in the destination of materials.

The offsetting of carbon emissions is then carried out through environmental projects led by the Wildlife Research and Environmental Education Society, while ESG reports consolidate data on energy consumption, emissions and waste disposal.

The impact on civil construction

The movement gains even more relevance in light of the environmental impact of civil construction, responsible for around 37% of global CO₂ emissions, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (2022). In Brazil, construction waste represents between 40% and 60% of the volume of urban solid waste, according to recent surveys by Abrelpe (2021–2023).

The director of CASACOR Paraná, Marina Nessi, highlights the pioneering nature of the initiative, especially due to the unprecedented adoption of Orbis Protocol's traceability technology. "Curitiba is internationally recognized for its actions focused on sustainability. We at CASACOR Paraná reinforce our commitment to preserving natural resources and advancing with solutions that expand the transparency and positive impact of the sector", she states.
