Sustainability is an action word that is increasingly present in
CASACOR 's exhibitions throughout Brazil and the Americas. Whether during civil construction, valuing dry processes with less waste, or by choosing certified and artisanal materials, for example,
sustainable projects invaded CASACOR's exhibitions this year, further consolidating the
brand's commitment to sustainability . Below, discover
12 projects that applied sustainable practices at
CASACOR 2023. 1. Motirõ Space, by Ester Carro - CASACOR São Paulo
In her debut at CASACOR SP , the architect and president of the Fazendinhando Institute Ester Carro designed the 34 m² Motirõ Space , which rescues memories of life in the favela and creates a space for activism, representation and awareness for peripheral living . Thinking about a greener , more resilient and sustainable city, Ester inserted a cistern connected to the toilet in the bathroom (which houses the laundry room), suggesting solutions for reusing water . The device can reduce up to 50% of the cost of drinking water in a home. One of the highlights is the Papelão Jóia coating , a reusable product that values conscious consumption, manufactured from a mixture of various reused materials , such as paper, cardboard, sawdust, coffee grounds and others, which are discarded improperly and in large quantities every day. 2. Our Gallery, by Bruna Dória - CASACOR Bahia
In the Nossa Galeria project, by Bruna Dória Interiores for CASACOR Bahia 2023 , the reuse of materials is one of the highlights. The objective is to present trends to the market, inspired by CASACOR 's own purpose. (Gabriela Daltro/CASACOR)
The office chose to use reused materials ranging from flooring to fabrics that finish the carpentry , with the aim of guiding people on how reuse can be carried out consciously. 3. Essence Lobby, by Life Projects - CASACOR Minas Gerais
All the choices made for the Essência Lobby project, by Life Projects at CASACOR Minas , aimed at maximizing waste reduction at the end of the project. With this in mind, the architect duo José Lourenço and Marina Figueiredo created the space that includes the exhibition's ticket office, as well as a lobby and the Audi space. One of these choices, which highlights the fluidity and lightness of the space, are the eco-fabrics that hang from the ceiling , contrasting with the hardness of the concrete and reinforcing the care for the planet and people. 4. Morena House, by Tufi Mousse - CASACOR São Paulo
Architect
Tufi Mousse designed
Casa Morena , measuring 152 m², at
CASACOR SP , thinking about selecting
more sustainable materials and elements that could be
reused after the show. A good example is the greenish
granite applied to some of the walls of the room. Produced from
marble powder , the material allows the
complete reuse of industrial waste that would otherwise be discarded.
Additionally, all
custom-made furniture will be taken to the partner brand’s factory
showroom , with a new
layout . Loose furniture (which includes classics of Brazilian modernism, such as the tea trolley designed by Gregori Warchavchik), lighting and flooring will all be reused.
5. KU'YA Loft, by Gabriel Ramires, José Carrari Filho and Stephanie Ribeiro - CASACOR São Paulo
Designed by architects Gabriel Ramires , José Carrari Filho and Stephanie Ribeiro , the 53 m² loft features materials such as wood , ceramics and sisal . The furniture is made from certified wood and is handcrafted. The highlight is the Abrigo Buffet, a work by designer and artist Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros, in partnership with indigenous artisans from the Mehinaku ethnic group of Alto Xingu. Produced in a limited edition of just eight pieces, the work was conceived based on deep listening and the horizontal union of knowledge , with the aim of transmitting a message of respect, equity and harmony. Made from cabreúva wood with naturally dyed cotton threads, the piece uses solid wood cylinders that refer to a traditional technique of the Mehinaku people in the production of mats, valuing and expanding the visibility of the work of women of the ethnic group. 6. Corporate Lounge, by Studio Architetonika Nomad + Flavia Glanert - CASACOR Paraná
The Corporate Lounge by Studio Architetonika Nomad + Flavia Glanert was designed to be completely dismantled and reassembled in one of the retrofit apartments that the duo Ary Jacobs and Renan Mutao buy and renovate to sell later. This way, everything will be reused ! Other environmental concerns can be seen in the project, such as the covering made from the reconstruction of leather scraps discarded by industries or the collection of Murano glass (on the shelf) from the 1950s to 1970s, acquired second-hand at antique fairs. There is also the texture of the wall behind the bar shelves, made of marble dust: waste left over from production is crushed and mixed with a binding mass, creating a new product and avoiding waste of the material. The rugs are all made of natural wool and are handcrafted. Also noteworthy is the Wiggle chair, made of corrugated cardboard . 7. Paths of the Backlands, by Gleuse Ferreira - CASACOR São Paulo
The environment of architect Gleuse Ferreira , great-granddaughter of Lampião and Maria Bonita , received the first Ocean Steward certificate from CASACOR for the contribution made to the Plastic Bank entity, preventing 40 kg of plastic from entering the ocean, in addition to helping collection communities transcend poverty. Dry construction, detachable elements, efficient electronic equipment, LED lamps and water-based paints complement the sustainability concerns . 8. Almar House, by Rafa Zampini - CASACOR São Paulo
The result of years of research, Casa Almar is a modular, demountable home solution, in the tiny house style – a 36 m² bungalow, designed by Rafa Zampini , who debuted at the show. The project's sustainability is reinforced by the maximum use of natural light and cross ventilation, low-maintenance materials and systems, solar heaters, photovoltaic panels, labor hired from socially responsible partners, reused wood, external cladding made from eucalyptus shavings and the conscious disposal of waste. 9. Dust and Glory, by Flávia Burin and Bruna Moretti - CASACOR São Paulo
Dry, industrialized and dismountable construction, techniques that allow the reuse of materials after the exhibition, certified wood , water-based paints and decorative elements made with recycled material are some of the sustainability highlights found in the ceramist's studio - Pó e Glória - designed by architects Flávia Burin and Bruna Moretti , from Studio HA, at CASACOR SP 2023. Connected to CASACOR's theme of the year, the space places the clay of bricks and handmade pieces in the role of raw material that comforts the body and soul. 10. “Reports of a photographed nature”, by Luciana Escobar and María Fernanda Valdettaro - CASACOR Peru
(Sebastian Aparicio/CASACOR)
A photographer's space to disconnect, the “ Relatos de una naturaleza fotografiada ” environment at CASACOR Peru 2023 is made up of a living area with a home office punctuated by the presence of vegetation and natural materials that highlight the feeling of comfort and warmth. Wood, plant fibers and natural fabrics stand out among the materials that create this biophilic environment – and inspiring for those who work in close relationship with nature. 11. Backwater, by Mariana Mendonça - CASACOR Goiás
Natural elements, Eastern philosophies and sensoriality linked to nature blend together in Mariana Mendonça 's project for CASACOR Goiás 2023. In the 98 m² Remanso environment, the architect rescues the stillness awakened by these small coves of calm in the river or the sea. The space invites you to a relaxing experience , in which water, stone, fire, natural fibers, clay, ceramics and other natural elements interact and blend together, creating an atmosphere of well-being, inspired by slow living and the Wabi-sabi concept, a Japanese philosophy that preaches the appreciation of simplicity , introduced in Japan by Sen no Rikyu, in the so-called tea ceremony , an ancient practice characterized by serving and drinking green tea. 12. Between us, for Planting ideas - CASACOR São Paulo
(Salvador Cordaro/CASACOR)
The parametric design of the Entre.nós common area at CASACOR SP ensured precision in the use of materials . All the furniture – made of certified wood – was designed by Estúdio Plantar Ideias , which designed the 156 m² space, formatted as a common area that portrays the transition between the forest and the seaside. In this space, visitors walk on a monolithic floor , reminiscent of beach sand. The trees are playfully represented by a large rope structure.
