In force since September 2015, the
Sustainable Development Goals , also known as the UN SDGs, define the 17 humanitarian themes that should serve as priorities in international public policies by 2030. They focus on three interconnected elements of sustainable development:
economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection . The SDGs are global in nature and universally applicable, taking into account different national realities, capacities and levels of development, as well as respecting national policies and priorities. They are not independent of each other – they need to be implemented in an integrated manner and their success depends on countries’ sustainable development policies, plans and programmes.
CASACOR São Paulo follows these points and with each edition incorporates more and more sustainable practices throughout all its shows.
We have selected 17 actions by CASACOR SP that are carried out based on the points of the UN SDGs. 1. Poverty Eradication
CASACOR São Paulo generates 50,000 direct and indirect jobs. Just by organizing the event, there are around 4,000 workers.
2. Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture
The event encourages operators to adopt menus with vegan and organic items. All food leftovers go through the composting process, generating almost 9 tons of organic fertilizer per edition.
3. Health and Wellbeing
On the construction site, there are practices to welcome (integrate) all workers on their first day, showing them the infrastructure. There is an incentive for space projects that take advantage of natural lighting and ventilation. The exhibition is 100% accessible and there is integration work with the receptionists for the professionals, in addition to creating a resting environment for them.
4. Quality Education
During employee integration, topics such as occupational health and safety care and waste management are addressed, in addition to promoting environmental education for the internal team.
5. Gender Equality
All functional bathrooms have been unisex since 2015. We do not distinguish tasks by gender and we have the example of the company being managed by a woman.
6. Drinking water and sanitation
There is free drinking water for the entire production team and visitors. In the editions held at the Jockey Club, all water used came from a treatment plant at the Jockey Club itself, where laboratory tests are performed regularly. During the construction, brush washers are installed to retain all paint sludge, preventing it from being discharged into the sewage system. By using rainwater catchers, there is a saving of around 4,000 liters of water per edition.
7. Clean and affordable energy
CASACOR SP is powered by electricity from the public grid. Some professionals install photovoltaic panels in their environments, thus reducing overall consumption.
8. Decent work and economic growth
All customers, suppliers and partners are advised to hire workers during the CASACOR event under the CLT regime.
9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure
CASACOR encourages innovation in the construction industry and its suppliers, always promoting space for new techniques and technologies, such as industrialized and dry constructions, which allow mobility and sustainable practices.
10. Reducing inequalities
Every year, partnerships are developed with AACD, in which 50% of ticket sales from the opening cocktail party go to the institution. Since 2016, CASACOR has been donating materials and products to NGOs and, to date, 146 tons have been donated.
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
CASACOR always presents interventions on the entrance sidewalk, serving as a laboratory for urban initiatives: rain gardens, inclusive sidewalks, bike racks, talks, etc. It also promotes partnerships with educational institutions to present the practices developed during the events.
12. Responsible consumption and production
Consumption reduction targets are established, with water and energy control. Construction conditions are also determined for professionals and their executors, such as the banning of masonry that does not have a proven technical function. There are strategic partnerships for conscious consumption (DECA - water reducers; Coral - water-based paints; LG - eco-efficient equipment).
13. Action against global climate change
Targets are set for the valorization and reduction of waste generation,
CO2 compensation
and water and energy savings. 14. Life in the water
Diverting plastic waste from landfills and retaining paint sludge.
15. Terrestrial life
The use of wood that does not have a DOF and FSC seal is prohibited. The use of native plants in landscaped environments is encouraged. The use of animals in the environments is not permitted.
16. Peace, justice and effective institutions
Despite understanding that this objective is a government-level commitment, CASACOR supports ethics in its relations with institutions, complying with all legal requirements for their proper functioning.
17. Partnerships and means of implementation
CASACOR operates in a network of 17 franchises in 4 countries and, despite being autonomous, the current headquarters is an example of sustainable practices, influencing all its followers with the theme.
