From May 21st to July 28th , the 37th edition of CASACOR São Paulo will take place
at Conjunto Nacional. Behind the 68 environments exhibited at the main event of the largest cultural platform for architecture, landscaping and interior design in the Americas, there is a team of six photography professionals trained to record every detail of the spaces. Below, we present the
members of the CASACOR São Paulo 2024 photography team and their trajectories in the world of photography and architecture!
Denilson Machado Renowned as one of the main references and a big name in the field, photographer Denilson Machado entered the world of architecture, art and design 24 years ago. As he says, this professional direction was not a calculated choice but rather a work of chance: “I usually say that I didn’t choose architecture, it chose me. But if I could have chosen, architecture would certainly have been my choice.” In 2019, Denilson became CASACOR ’s official photographer
. Since then, he has been portraying the exhibitions from his deeply aesthetic perspective
, he says: “My work is very much about natural light and the construction of the image. I don’t just go there and photograph it as it is, I construct this image thinking about resolving it aesthetically, making it more pleasing, with more visual impact and making it communicate more.” For the sixth consecutive year, Denilson is present at the show and is cited as an inspiration by all the other photographers on the team. But who does he draw inspiration from? “ Art . It is the greatest source of inspiration, it is where my photography is today”, he says. (Denilson Machado/CASACOR)
Bia Nauiack
Art, architecture and design have been a passion in Bia Nauiack's life for years. As a child, she admired floor plans and sketches in newspapers — she would even draw layouts on them and paint shadows, people and trees on the facades. Her journey with CASACOR began in 2019, when she began photographing environments for architects and sponsors in Paraná and assisting Denilson Machado in São Paulo. In 2023, Bia Nauiack's work was on the cover of the Paraná edition of the exhibition, with a photograph of the extraordinary Deca Manifesto by Gustavo Scaramella, an architect featured in the São Paulo exhibition this year. In her work, the photographer seeks to detail projects as much as possible and humanize the space, provoking sensations through light and framing. “I build the photograph with proportions and depths, changing the elements to transform the three-dimensional space — the environment — into two-dimensional — the photograph,” says Bia. Israel Gollino
With a degree in architecture and urban planning, Israel Gollino considered photography as a hobby during the years he worked on projects. With the rise of social media, architects noticed his photography work and began seeking him out to photograph environments — from then on, his professional career became the union of his two passions: architecture and photography . Israel began photographing for CASACOR in the 2018 edition. For him, photographing for the show is a constant challenge to “
innovate, exceed expectations and think beyond ”
. The way he found to do this was by applying his sensitive eye, always attentive to the message that the environments want to convey: “I like to feel the environment, understand the light, the shadows, the textures and the points of view that naturally stand out. When people ask me if I take more horizontal or vertical photos, I answer that the environment will tell me the position of the photo, it is not up to me, the environment speaks, I see”. The first CASACOR environment photographed by Carolina was in the Ribeirão Preto edition in 2019. In 2020, during the pandemic, she participated in Janelas CASACOR , and in 2022, she received the invitation to become the official photographer of the show: “It was a dream come true”. 2024 is the first year that we will see Carolina's perspective at CASACOR São Paulo — a perspective that, according to her, seeks to create an outstanding photograph : “I seek to achieve an image with the potential to capture the attention of those who observe it and to impress”, she describes. Camila Santos
Camila Santos’ first contact with photography was also during her career as an architect. Once, she needed to check measurements on a construction site and brought her semi-professional camera. The connection was instantaneous: “I fell in love with the images and the feeling that moment awakened in me. Naturally, the architect in me was replaced by the photographer.” In 2016, the year she began taking professional photographs, Camila was invited by an architect to photograph one of her spaces at CASACOR Espírito Santo . At that time, the photographer says she still didn’t feel completely confident about her work. This only happened two years later, when she took a course with Denilson Machado — who she considers a great inspiration. “There, I realized that the desire to print my identity in the photograph of someone else’s project wasn’t wrong. That more important than the technique was the feeling .” Camila established her career at CASACOR when she was officially invited to be the yearbook photographer
in 2020, a position she held in 2021 and 2022. This year, at the invitation of Denilson Machado, she joined the team of official photographers at CASACOR SP. For her, the exhibition is an opportunity to further exercise her creative freedom . Roberta Gewehr With a degree in business administration and marketing, Roberta even studied architecture before, but did not complete her degree. Despite dropping out, her enthusiasm for the field remained alive: after finishing her degree, she opened her own business in the real estate market. To advertise the apartments, she began to photograph them unpretentiously with a borrowed camera. “I didn’t work directly in architecture, but I liked being involved in architecture,” she says. What was just a one-off demand for her work became her professional career, as well as a great passion: “I started studying architectural photography because I fell in love with being able to record and tell a little more about the stories of these environments.” In 2019, she left the real estate market, bought professional equipment and became a student of Denilson Machado — who, according to her, showed her the path to photography. In 2021, Roberta began photographing environments at CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul and, since then, she has attended the event every year. For her, the best part of being part of the exhibition's photography team is enjoying the moments in the space outside of visiting hours. “We have the privilege of being at CASACOR during very special moments. It's really cool to be alone in all those amazing environments, it allows me to look much more carefully and in detail for the photographic record. For me, that place is very magical . ”
