Peonies are known for their exuberant beauty and vibrant flowers. To grow them at home, choosing the location is crucial. Opt for a spot that receives direct sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours daily. The sun is essential for the formation of vigorous and healthy flowers.
Preparing the soil also plays an important role. These flowers prefer a well-drained and organic-rich soil. Before planting, ensure the soil is loose and that you add compost or aged manure, which will enrich the soil with necessary nutrients.
You should also consider spacing; the roots need room to grow and expand, so leave at least 90 cm between each plant. Planting should take place in the fall, when temperatures begin to drop. Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots without bending them, and keep the crown of the plant about 5 cm below the surface. Water immediately after planting to help compact the soil and eliminate air pockets.
