The
Pontal Museum , the largest and most comprehensive collection of folk art in the country, with more than 9,000 sculptures by 300 artists from various regions of Brazil, celebrates the success of the crowdfunding campaign it promoted for the planting of its
external gardens. and interns , in its new headquarters in Barra, to be opened between April and June 2021. There were 123 benefactors, who contributed with direct donations and also through tax exemptions of up to 6% of the total Personal Income Tax. And, added to the generous participation of the company Repsol Sinopec, which guaranteed the
complete landscaping of an area of 2 thousand m² with a total raised among all donors of 271,455 reais.
In this first phase,
more than 30 thousand seedlings will be planted , from 37 Brazilian species, from fruit trees and tropical vegetation to the caatinga landscapes, which dialogue with the Museum's precious collection, and mainly integrate in a decisive way the architectural project developed by the award-winning artist.
Associated Architects office. In a future campaign, the focus will be on planting an 8,000 m² forest, which will significantly contribute to
purifying and moisturizing the region's air , capturing CO2 and returning oxygen to the atmosphere.
Crowdfunding
The success of the crowdfunding campaign that will allow the completion of the new headquarters of the
Pontal Museum is celebrated by the entire Museum team and its public, as without it the new home could not be completed properly.
The new space, installed on a 14,000 m² plot of land, close to
Bosque da Barra , expands the scope of action and programming of the Museu do Pontal, which will thus become
one of the most important art and culture facilities in the West Zone. from Rio de Janeiro , also promoting social, environmental and educational projects.
About the Casa do Pontal Museum
The
Pontal Museum , a reference in popular art and the largest collection of Brazilian popular art, had been suffering from numerous problems in its former headquarters. “Until reaching this dreamed moment, more than 10 years of continuous struggles and many apprehensions have already been added up, since 2010, when the Museum suffered
the first of many floods that put its precious collection at risk,” says Lucas Van de Beuque, the institution’s executive director.
Founded in 1976 by French artist and collector Jacques Van de Beuque (1922-2000), the Museu do Pontal will now receive a suitable home.
The new headquarters will open in the second quarter of 2021 , with a large long-term exhibition. The process of The change of the delicate and historic collection is possible thanks to resources from BNDES, Itaú, Vale and people who understood the importance of preserving this important Brazilian heritage and contributed to collective financing. In a building designed by the award-winning
Associated Architects , with landscaping by the
Burle Marx firm, the new headquarters of the Pontal Museum is located on an already consolidated site, surrounded by parks and nature reserves, such as the
Bosque da Barra . The new space has 14 thousand m² of land and 2,600 m² of built area also has a privileged view of
Pedra da Gávea and a section of the
Sleeping Giant (the mythological group of mountains that stretches for 20 kilometers, from Barra to Pão de Açúcar).
