Today, there are many ways to create a green wall – whether it’s a shelf with pots, trellises to hold plants or pots, or even pictures . The materials used are also diverse, such as steel, iron, concrete, ceramics and wood. “When incorporating a vertical garden into the project, the important thing is to consider the load that the chosen wall supports”, advises Carina Korman , head of the Korman Arquitetos office, alongside Ieda Korman . 
This is because the structure may be light, but it also has the weight of the chosen species, soil and water. 
Irrigation is essential in a vertical garden and can be done using an automatic or manual system . “For larger green walls, the automatic system is the best option. It ensures practicality in everyday life,” says Carina. In this case, the system has a pressurizing pump , making the entire process automated. To ensure the vitality of the species, Carina and Ieda recommend always keeping the soil or substrate moist, but not excessively so. 
Considering the location of the vertical garden is also essential to ensure that it remains beautiful and attractive , without requiring much maintenance. “The ideal is to choose a wall that receives natural light , but that is not excessively exposed to sunlight,” says Ieda Korman. In general, it is the brightness of the environment that will also determine the best species to make up the vertical garden. 
“For indoor environments with less sunlight, choose shade-loving plants. Outdoor environments work best with more resistant plants. In both cases, the ideal is to choose long-lasting species that require less maintenance,” indicate the professionals at Korman Arquitetos.
